Cannot find/edit a published page ('orphan')

Reviewed June 3, 2022

The Issue

A page or piece of shared content sometimes is published under a name that no longer exists on the author system. This can happen if a user without publishing rights renames a published page, or possibly for other reasons.

Workaround

To delete the inaccessible published page:

  1. Create a "helper" page or piece of shared content with the same Name as the inaccessible published page. The Title can be anything you like, and it can be made with any page template. But the Name MUST match the inaccessible page.
  2. Unpublish this new page. It does not need to be published first.
  3. Confirm that the inaccessible page is now gone.
  4. Delete the new page.
