YouTube shorts (portrait mode) videos display poorly

YouTube videos created in portrait mode display undesirably in landscape mode in the UBCMS.

Reviewed November 6, 2023

The Issue

YouTube videos can be created in portrait mode and if they are short duration, stay as vertically oriented 'Shorts'. But in the UBCMS, they are only portrayed in landscape mode, with filler sidepanel wings, even in mobile.

This display format diminishes the preferred effect of a portrait display, especially on mobile devices.

Workaround

This is out of our control.  YouTube does not define these differently in their embed code, so the UBCMS has no way tio handle them differently.

As a workaround, be sure to enable the full screen setting in the Video (YouTube) component properties. so the visitor can switch to the mode (and watch as portrait), or step into that, or let them watch it in YouTube.
