Copying Pages

A quick and easy way to duplicate a page, with all its content and its format, and (optionally) its children.

A page can be copied within the same parent directory or to another location of the same site. If the page is copied into a different site, the page will assume the styling of that new site.

Be Mindful of Tags

When you copy a page, you also transfer any tags. Please check in Properties (shortcut 'p') to be sure you only copied what you need, and this new page does not unexpectedly appear in any lists or pages based on that parent’s tags.

When you Paste, children are also copied.

Click the Paste dropdown (not the main button) to reveal 'Paste without children'.

Of if you get child pages you do not want, just remove them. Click the new page, select the revealed child pages, then click Delete. If any of those have their own children, you will see a warning 'Upon deletion N pages will also be deleted.'

Within the Same Parent Directory

In the Sites console:

  1. Navigate to the parent of the page you wish to copy.
  2. Select your page by clicking its thumbnail.
  3. A toolbar will display across the top of the window. Click Copy.
  4. Click Paste in the top right of the window, or click Paste without children in the dropdown.
  5. Your file will appear in this same folder.
    • It will share the original page's Title and its Name plus a numerical suffix; e.g. original-page would become original-page1.
  6. Your page will appear as the last page in the folder.
  7. Retitle and name the new page as desired.

To a Different Parent Directory

In the Sites console:

  1. Navigate to the parent of the page you wish to copy.
  2. Select your page by clicking its thumbnail.
  3. A toolbar will display across the top of the window. Click Copy.
  4. Navigate to the page's new location.
    • You must select the new parent page (click its thumbnail), not just expose its children in the file tree.
  5. Click Paste in the top right of the window, or click Paste without children in the dropdown.
  6. Your file will appear at the bottom of this folder.
    • It will have the same Name and Title as the original page.
  7. Retitle and name the new page as desired.
