Add a Component to a Page

Showcases how to add a component to a page. [3:54]

Two options for completing this exercise...
  1. Request a Self-Paced account on the Training Server. Then just follow the instructions as is.
  2. If you already have access to the main Author Server, adapt the instructions to fit your own site.

Scope

UBCMS pages are created using building blocks called components. Each component is specially designed to hold content, such as text, or an image or a video. Some components are designed to be used on the main part of the page, while others are formatted to fit in the sidebar or even the header or footer.

Instructions

1. Log into the UBCMS.

2. Open the Sites Console and navigate to your site; e.g. Sites + Self-Paced Training + {your site}.

3. Open any page for editing.

4. Add a component:

  1. Click the Toggle Side Panel button at the top left to open the Side Panel.
  2. Select the Components Browser.
  3. Find a component in the alphabetical list. Scroll down or start typing the name and it should show up quickly.
  4. Drag the component over to the page. As you hover, you should see some blue half circles with an arrow that points where the component will be displayed. If you don’t see the blue half circles, you can’t drop the component there.

It is also possible to add a component from one of the work areas or an existing component. Click that spot then click the plus sign (+) to see the same list of available components. Select the desired component and it will automatically be added at the spot you chose.
