"Reduce Image Size Before Uploading" warning

When uploading an image into a photo component or other image module, the component displays an error when saved.

Reviewed June 3, 2022

The Issue

When uploading an image into a photo component or an image tab in another module, the component displays an error when saved.

This is a system limit. There is a hard cutoff of 8096 px for images in components. Any image with larger dimensions will display an error ("Reduce image size before uploading").

Workaround

We normally discourage embedding large files directly into your pages -- instead we encourage authors place these files into Assets (the "DAM"). Large files are those over 5MB, but as noted the system also has a limit set at 8096 px.

Uploading the image into Assets, or resizing the image to be below 8096 px in either dimension should resolve this.
