Explore the Sites Console

Showcases the Sites console. [5:18]

Scope

The Sites console provides access to your webpages in the Author environment, plus information about those pages and tools to help you modify your website.

Two options for completing this exercise...
  1. Request a Self-Paced account on the Training Server. Then just follow the instructions as is.
  2. If you already have access to the main Author Server, adapt the instructions to fit your own site.

Instructions

1. Log into the UBCMS.

2. On the Start Page, click the Sites link and explore the Sites Console and its features.

Dominating most of the page is a display of any folders or pages you have selected. The specific view is dependent on the List View you have currently selected (as noted below). If you see page details, note the page Titles (capitalized, normal English) and page Names (usually lower case, hyphenated).

Surrounding the center area, the page has a lot of tools.

At the very top is a standard header, that occurs throughout the authoring environment, where you will find…

  • Top left, a link labeled Adobe Experience Manager will take you back to the Start page.
  • Also in the top left, a dropdown that controls the left sidebar, called the Side Panel, which displays the Content Tree, Timeline, or page References.
  • Top right, links to:
    • Search (which indexes all Author content).
    • Help (which shows some keyboard shortcuts).
    • Inbox (for teams using a feature called Workflow).
    • Your User profile.
  • Also in the top right, tools to:
    • Select All pages you are viewing.
    • Create new pages.
    • Change the Page List View. (We recommend List View.)

When you select a page....

  • A hidden tool bar loads across the top of the page called the Command Menu, with tools to Create, Edit, Copy, Move, Publish, and Delete, plus a link to manage page Properties.

Feel free to experiment with all of these tools. The Training Server sites are meant to be broken!
