Below is a summary of some of the policies which affect administration of a site in the UBCMS.
All materials entered into UBCMS must comply with federal copyright law and SUNY Patents & Inventions Policy (8 NYCRR § 335.28).
UBCMS content authors and publishers are responsible for obtaining all permissions that may be necessary to incorporate works of third parties in their pages. Use of such works may be permitted by principles of fair use, consistent with copyright laws (see, for example, UB Libraries Copyright and Fair Use page.
Names and marks representing the University at Buffalo are protected under New York State and federal copyright and trademark laws. For more information, contact the Office of Trademarks and Licensing. The university has established a set of visual identity standards for all of our official communication from print to Web to multimedia. Regulated Private Data must not be stored in or posted as content in the UBCMS. (See Protection of Regulated Private Data Policy for a definition of Regulated Private Data). Protected or Confidential data must not be posted or collected without appropriate security safeguards in place. Please contact the Information Security Office for any clarification regarding appropriate security safeguards.
All web pages on UBCMS which are viewable by the public must comply with NYS Information Technology Policy NYS-P08-005 for Accessibility of Web-Based Applications and Information.
University Communications (UC) does not routinely pre-screen, monitor or regularly review posted UBCMS content. However, UC reserves the right to remove, at any time, at its sole discretion, any content that it considers to violate these Terms of Use or the terms of any other campus user agreements that may govern use of the campus networks, or that it deems in violation of University policy or local, state, or federal law.
UC reserves the right to review and/or approve content for activation for general Web audience viewing where deemed appropriate and in accordance with existing University policies and terms of service. Should the University receive reports regarding a Web site on which it is felt that inappropriate content has been posted, UC will investigate and contact the Unit Web Leader to discuss the issue. In exceptional cases, where the content is obviously unacceptable, UC will immediately remove the content prior to contacting the Unit Web Leader.
