Step 2 - QA2 Approval

In this step, you'll compare your site between QA (current version) and QA2 (NextGen preview).

Both QA and QA2 are weekly snapshots of your AUTHOR site. QA shows your current site, QA2 shows it converted to NextGen.

Timeframe: Depends on site size, complexity, and customization. Most sites: 1-3 days.
No change freeze needed yet.

What to do in Step 2

  1. Log in to both QA and QA2 UBCMS servers
    1. If you are working off campus, first connect to the UB VPN
    2. Log in to ubcms-qa and ubcms-qa2
    3. Navigate to your pages on both QA and QA2 servers
  2. Compare the pages you identified in Step 1 between QA and QA2
    1. Visual - Do the pages look accurate?
    2. Functional - Do forms, links, etc. function as expected?
    3. Responsive - Do the pages respond correctly across screen sizes?
  3. What to expect when comparing:
NextGen's template rebuild means you'll notice minor differences in template and component spacing between QA and QA2. This is intentional and expected.
    • Focus on:
      • Overall layout and component placement
      • Major visual or functional problems
    • Don't worry about:
      • Pixel-perfect alignment between versions
      • Minor spacing adjustments
    • What if you find issues?
      • UBCMS component problems - Report an issue
      • Customization problems - Fix in QA2 and copy your working code to AUTHOR by end of day Friday. See Testing Custom Code for the full workflow.
      • Need more time? QA2 reconverts every weekend from AUTHOR with your latest updates
  4. Have custom code?
If your site uses custom HTML, CSS, or JavaScript, review the developer resources before you start:
  5. Submit Approval
    1. Once you verify QA2 is accurate, submit QA2 approval

What to expect next

  • EAS will back up and convert your AUTHOR site to NextGen (1-2 business days).
  • You'll be notified when it's converted and ready for Step 3.
